Shopping Centres - Casual Leases
REIT May 2007 - Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is currently considering what is referred to as the Casual Mall Licensing Code of Practice.
In lay-mans terms this considers who can have a casual license to sell goods and services in a given shopping mall or shopping centre on a casual or short term basis. The question then arises as to where they are allowed to be located, for how long and what impact this has on existing retailers and also traffic flows (pedestrian especially).
The Shopping Centre Council of Australia is proposing various code of practice changes to better manage these activities and if approved will become applicable to shopping centre’s and malls in all states and territories.
